Diagnostic Medical Sonography Degree Program
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program is opportunity to work in a fast-growing field of healthcare. This program enables people to work as a diagnostic medical sonographer or sonographer for short. They use imaging equipment, including soundwave technology, to image various parts of the body. These medical imaging tests, called ultrasounds, allow doctors to make medical health care decisions for patients. Sonographers are trained to acquire these images and then analyze the images to provide doctors with key data and information needed to make decisions.

Those who work as sonographers will learn how to use the equipment, gather images, and use them to help make an accurate diagnosis. To do this, they need advanced training. This often includes earning an associate’s degree, which can be completed in less than two years, and includes classes in sciences and anatomy. Students will complete hands-on training using medical sonography equipment while also obtaining clinical experience.
Once completing their education in sonography, students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam. This is conducted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
