Arnak Hovasapyan

Casa Loma College considers the closure of Brightwood College as having a positive impact on the college and sonography program.  Not only did we receive some outstanding students, continuing their studies in sonography, but also gained an amazing faculty member for our sonography program. Arnak Hovasapyan is a practicing sonographer currently working at Valley Presbyterian Hospital as well as teaching in our diagnostic medical sonography program. We are glad to have him as part of our team!

I’m just a human being that likes to change things around for the better.

Tell Us About Your Educational Background.
I received my Master of Science in Material Science and Metallurgy from the State Engineering University of Armenia. In addition I received a certificate in Cardiac Sonography and a diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Kaplan College. My current certification are RDMS (RVT).

What Inspired You to Pursue This Career Path?
I was fascinated by the medical field and wanted to go deeper into it.

What Areas Within This Field Are of Interest to You? Is There an Area You Are More Focused On?
Sonography is very diverse by nature, and the entire human body is worth exploring. I enjoy focusing and exploring clinical cases.

Is There Any Research You Are Working On?
Yes, Clinical cases and their presentation methods.

What Have Been Your Most Important, Proudest And/or Favorite Experiences in Your Career?
I performed a sonography on a woman with an Ectopic Abdominal pregnancy at 34 weeks, which happens extremely rarely in nature.

What Brought You to Teach at Casa Loma College?
The desire to teach and pass on knowledge to future Sonography students.

What Is Your Favorite Part of Working with Adult Students?
The level of responsibility and willingness to succeed, shown in their desire to achieve higher education.

What Attracted You to The Field of Education?
The desire to change/elaborate the teaching methods and smooth out the path to learning and invest in the future of Sonography.

Who Has Influenced You the Most in Life?
My wife and my family.

If You Could Have Dinner with One Person, Living or Dead, Who Would It Be?
Charles Aznavour (Famous French-Armenian Singer, who received Raoul Wallenberg medal for saving people at time of Holocaust).

How Do You Like to Spend Your Free Time?
With my busy schedule between working at the hospital and teaching, I make time to have fun with my family and kids by cooking new and creative dishes.

What’s something you want to do that you’ve never done before?
Travel to new places and try new culinary dishes from different cuisines.

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

What is your favorite book and why?
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, it gives one a different perspective of ideas.

What is your favorite movie?
Game of Thrones.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
One of Martin Luther King quotes that never fails to inspire me, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward”
